This dictionary has been set up to help you better understand the technical
"lingo" associated with voice and data communication. Simply

WAN
Wide Area Network - any Internet or network that covers
an area larger than a single building or campus. WANs interconnect LANs
across normal telephone lines (and other media) thereby inteconnecting
geographically dispersed users.
Whisper Page
Allows a secretary to announce an incoming call or other message while
the "boss" is on another call. The interruption is preceded
by a tone heard by all parties on the call, but the announcement is heard
only on the boss' extension. A special feature button allows the boss
to place the call on hold and speak to the secretary.
WinSPM
A Windows-baed System Progamming and Maintenance tool used to program
and maintain the communications system.
Wireless Data Systems
Systems which transmit through a radio-based network.
Wireless Phones
Phones which operate in the 900MHz or 1900MHz radio spectrum using digital
technology. Wireless phones typically provide greater range and better
voice quality than cordless phones.
